SU(Nc) gauge theories for all Nc

Abstract We show that SU(N c ) gauge theories in 2+1 dimensions are close to N c = ∞ for N c ≥ 2. The dimensionful coupling, g 2 , is proportional to 1/ N c , at large N c , confirming the usual diagram-based expectation. Preliminary calculations in 3+1 dimensions indicate that the same is true there.
